The Estra Group has acquired a 15% stake in ECOS S.r.l., a company operating in the special waste management sector.
The equity interest will gradually be increased to 100% of share capital in subsequent steps set to conclude in 2023.
ECOS owns a waste storage facility and is specialised in disposing both hazardous and non-hazardous waste (with a maximum capacity of 85,000 tonnes), in addition to collecting and transporting waste and reclaiming contaminated sites. The storage facility covers an area of 9,500 square metres in Barberino Tavarnelle (Florence).
The ECOS acquisition confirms the reinforcement of the Estra Group’s management of the integrated waste cycle and its role as a multiutility serving citizens by providing integrated services essential to the local communities. The deal is further progress towards this goal following on the acquisition of Ecolat, the award of a 1.16% equity interest in A.I.S.A. and the resulting indirect investment in SEI Toscana, the environmental services manager for South Tuscany.
“Through this transaction, we aim to serve the citizens and local communities in which we operate by restoring public governance of a very delicate service relating to the waste cycle, and in particular management of special waste, while ensuring efficient administration and adequate resources to operate in the best possible way,” commented Alessandro Piazzi, Estra’s Chief Executive Officer. “The deal is consistent with the Group's green development strategy in the environmental sector and represents a strategic opportunity to expand its presence in the urban and special waste sector by also offering storage services.”
