ESTRA acquires 100% of ECOS S.r.l., a company operating in the special waste sector

The deal consolidates and expands the Group’s position in the integrated waste cycle management

The Estra Group has acquired 100% of ECOS S.r.l., a company operating in the special waste management sector, thus finalising the acquisition process launched in October 2020 with the purchase of a 15% interest.
As a result of this transaction, the finalisation of the acquisition — initially set to be concluded in 2023 — has been completed in advance by gradually increasing the equity interest held.
ECOS owns a waste storage facility and is specialised in disposing both hazardous and non-hazardous waste (with a maximum capacity of 85,000 tonnes), in addition to collecting and transporting waste and reclaiming contaminated sites.
This facility plays a strategic role thanks to the different waste authorisations it holds, which cover the treatment of both solid and non-solid, hazardous and non-hazardous waste. Located in Barberino Tavarnelle (Florence), the facility covers an area of 9,500 square meters that is linked to the main transport routes and represents Tuscany’s focal point, so that it is recognised as a reference hub for waste treatment in Central Italy.
The ECOS acquisition enables Estra to pursue the guidelines of its 2021-2025 strategic plans, which call for the expansion of the Group’s management of the main phases of the integrated waste cycle. The deal follows on the acquisition of Ecolat and the resulting indirect investment in SEI Toscana, the environmental services manager for South Tuscany. In November 2020, Estra also acquired a 5% in Bisenzio Ambiente, a company that owns a treatment facility for hazardous and non-hazardous special waste in the form of liquid and pumpable sludge located in the province of Florence. This deal calls for the acquisition of full ownership through a gradual increase in the equity interest held.
“Through the finalisation of this transaction, we forge ahead the Group's green development process and reinforce its role as a multiutility serving citizens that operate in the complex waste cycle management sector, especially with regard to special waste,” commented Paolo Abati, Estra’s General Manager. “This deal is also perfectly in line with the framework of the EU guidelines that aim at focusing on the distinctive values of circular economy and environmental sustainability to foster a more efficient and eco-friendly use of resources.”
